IHIT involved in investigation into suspicious death in Port Moody
PORT MOODY – Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman whose body was discovered at Reed Point Marina on New Year’s Day.
Port Moody Police responded to a report of a deceased person in the water at the marina, located at 850 Barnet Highway, at approximately 9:19 a.m. on January 1. With assistance from the Coast Guard, authorities recovered the body of a woman in her 60s.
The Port Moody Major Crime Section initiated the investigation, but the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since taken over. IHIT announced that the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are considered suspicious, and criminal involvement has not been ruled out.
“We are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area of Reed Point Marina between 3:00 p.m. on December 31, 2024, and 9:30 a.m. on January 1, 2025, says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. Dashcam video would be especially helpful and we are asking you to contact IHIT as soon as possible.”
Authorities believe the incident was isolated and do not consider there to be any further risk to the public. The woman’s identity is being withheld to respect her family’s privacy.
Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area of Reed Point Marina between 3 p.m. on December 31 and 9:30 a.m. on January 1.
