Meth, SD cards seized at Mountain Institution in Agassiz

AGASSIZ — Correctional officers have recently barred thousands of dollars’ worth of contraband from their premises in Mountain Institution, a medium-security prison west of Agassiz.
On Tuesday (Sep. 9), staff intercepted a visitor who was trying to bring unauthorized items into the facility and found contraband, including methamphetamine and SD cards.
Their total institutional value is estimated at $54,600. Police have been notified, and the institution is now investigating.
“This seizure is the result of the combined efforts of correctional officers and security intelligence officers,” said CSC.
The CSC uses a number of tools, such as ion scanners and drug-detection dogs, to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. A telephone tip line has also been set up so the agency can receive more security-related information at its correctional facilities.
