Mission requesting input for rural strategy development

MISSION — The City of Mission is inviting residents to assist it in the development of the Rural Mission Strategy. When complete, the strategy will identify key issues for rural residents and maintain the city’s unique rural essence.
“Growing up in rural Mission taught me two things: these communities are special places where neighbourliness, heritage, and living close to nature thrive, and they are also at risk if we don’t define a clear vision for their future,” said Mayor Paul Horn in a news release.
The strategy will build upon the newly updated Official Community Plan (OCP) which serves as a guide for City Council and staff in planning matters.
Residents are invited to participate through an online survey available through the City of Mission website before Wednesday October 15. Input will also be taken at open houses planned for Stave Fall Elementary school on October 7 and Boswyk Seniors Centre on October 8. “Pop-up” information sessions are also planned for October 7 and October 8 at Stave Lake, Mill Pond, the Downtown Library and at the Leisure Centre.
“This process is about preserving the character of these neighbourhoods as valued places to live, work, and recreate. Above all, it’s about protecting the rural choice for generations to come, and we need to hear from everyone in our community to get the vision right,” said the mayor.
