Chilliwack RCMP warn seniors, public not to fall for the same old scam

CHILLIWACK — Mounties in Chilliwack are urging seniors and other members of the public not to fall prey to a scam that seems to be surfacing again.
In a social media post, Chilliwack RCMP say scammers are active once again by contacting seniors with bogus stories about loved ones needing bail money.
The fraudsters create panic and urgency, tend to negotiate a “more affordable” amount and will try to facilitate an in-person retrieval of cash.
Chilliwack RCMP say police will never ask for bail money through third parties or in-person exchanges, and are urging seniors to protect themselves through the following:
• Verify – call your loved one directly
• Never share personal or financial info with unknown callers
• Don’t meet anyone to hand over money
• Report suspicious calls to RCMP
If you or someone you know has been targeted, contact the Chilliwack RCMP non-emergency line at 604-792-4611 or visit the Chilliwack RCMP detachment at 45924 Airport Road.
