Chilliwack School District expects boost of over $1 million from int’l student enrolment vs. previous year

CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack School District has experienced a fairly significant enrolment boost in international students during the current budget cycle, resulting in a revenue increase of over a million dollars compared to the previous school year.
According to a report from SD33 financial staff contained within this past week’s school board package, revenue from international students has increased significantly compared to last year. The Chilliwack School District attributes this to both an increase of full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment from 141 to 191 students and a $1,000 annual tuition increase.
In previous periods, SD33 says financial staff had been more conservative with its projections. However, Chilliwack School District now expect to see a $479,000 increase over budget and aa $1,200,000 increase over last year’s international revenue.
On its website, Chilliwack School District says it has been offering an outstanding educational program to students from around the globe for over 20 years. Whether they’re here in Chilliwack for a semester, a year, or to graduate, International students are able to choose from the same extensive and varied learning opportunities that SD33 students enjoy.
The International Student Program affords participants with challenging academic studies and English language learning opportunities in classrooms where they are fully integrated with fellow Canadian students, making it a completely immersive experience, the district wrote on its website.
