ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford were back on the roads to keep them safe from impaired drivers Friday night (Aug. 15) – this time, with the help of the Surrey Police Service.
The Abbotsford Police Department partnered with Surrey’s Impaired Driving Unit for a joint enforcement initiative targeting impaired drivers in the city.
Officers worked through heavy rain to remove a total of 22 motorists within 12 hours. The breakdown is as follows:
- Seven 90-day suspensions: Typically for people with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 80mg and up in 100ml of blood, or with a drug concentration equal to or more than the prescribed amount within two hours of driving.
- Two seven-day suspensions: Given to those who have been in the Warn range (BAC =/+ 0.05) for the second time in five years
- 11 three-day suspensions: For first-timers in the Warn range
- Two 24-hour suspensions: Given when police have reasonable grounds to believe alcohol or drugs have affected a person’s ability to drive.
“Collaborative efforts like these not only strengthen inter-agency relationships but also provide valuable opportunities for officers to share expertise, refine their skills, and enhance public safety across our communities,” said AbbyPD.
