Smoking semi removed from Langley roads Saturday

LANGLEY — Langley police have now stamped out a big rig situation before it could fan into another fire – maybe literally.
On Saturday (Sep. 20), RCMP officers stopped a semi-truck and trailer that was seen billowing heavy smoke while driving.
An inspection revealed multiple safety concerns, and the truck and trailer were immediately removed from the road as a result.
“Commercial vehicles must be properly maintained and safe to operate. Unsafe trucks put everyone at risk,” said Langley RCMP. “Our officers will continue to prioritize road safety by holding drivers and owners accountable.”
The driver has been fined $600.
A number of semis have caught on fire across Fraser Valley roads recently.
Just yesterday (Sep. 19), Hope firefighters stifled a semi fire along Highway 3, and on August 29, one truck set ablaze on the Coquihalla Highway next to a forested area.
The latter incident closed a portion of the road and prompted helicopter bucketing operations from the BC Wildfire Service.
