Chilliwack RCMP Supt. to discuss latest stats showing uptick in crimes against persons

CHILLIWACK – Upper Fraser Valley RCMP Detachment Superintendent Darren Pankratz is expected to make an appearance before Chilliwack City Council today to discuss the latest crime stats, some of which show a nearly five per cent uptick in crimes against persons year over year.
According to PowerPoint slides contained within Tuesday’s Chilliwack City Council meeting packet, there were 2,921 incidents of crimes against persons in 2025, an increase of 4.7 per cent versus 2024’s mark of 2,788 incidents of crimes against persons. Crimes against persons can include incidents like assault, robbery and harassment.
Priority one calls were up considerably in 2025 (1,925 calls) versus the prior year (1,693 calls), an increase of 13.7 per cent.

However, the latest stats show not everything increased in Chilliwack the past year. Property crimes dipped a bit from 2,953 incidents in 2024 to 2,915 in 2025.
Reported robberies decreased from 48 incidents in the fourth quarter of 2024 to 27 in the fourth quarter of 2025. Assaults dipped from 315 in the fourth quarter to 298 assaults year over year.

Mounties continue to conduct proactive enforcement in Chilliwack and within its catchment area stretching from Chilliwack to Boston Bar. They issued 2,981 traffic violation tickets in the latest reporting period, conducted 5,260 foot patrols, initiated 1,504 targeted presence activities, maintained strategic patrols in hot spots on 1,261 occasions, and recorded 1,321 mischief files.
Pankratz, who was announced as the new RCMP Officer in Charge for the Upper Fraser Valley Detachment in July 2025, will discuss the latest findings at today’s meeting (Tuesday, February 3) set for 2 p.m. at Chilliwack City Hall, 8550 Young Road.
