Vancouver Canucks set to make ‘major announcement’
VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks say the NHL team will make a “major announcement” today.
The news comes as the Canucks search for new leadership following the firing of general manager Patrik Allvin.
The top candidates to fill the roles are reportedly Vancouver’s assistant general manager Ryan Johnson, and Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Hall of Fame forwards who have been working for the team in hockey development.
Allvin was dismissed on April 17 after the Canucks finished the season last in the league with a 25-49-8 record.
Vancouver’s president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford then announced on May 6 that he’ll step down from his role following next month’s draft and become an adviser.
Rutherford has said the search for a new general manager involved more than 15 candidates.
The list reportedly included former Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion, Boston Bruins assistant general manager Evan Gold and former Maple Leafs special adviser Shane Doan, who recently parted ways with Toronto.
