Two taken to hospital after vehicle plunges into North Thompson River in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Two people were taken to Royal Inland Hospital after a vehicle plunged into the North Thompson River Sunday (May 17) evening.

​BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS) told CFJC Today that it was notified at 6:17 p.m. about a vehicle that left a residential road and landed in the river. It dispatched an ambulance with advanced care paramedics, four ambulances with primary care paramedics and a paramedic supervisor units to the scene.

“Paramedics provided medical treatment to two patients – one an occupant of the vehicle and one a passerby helping at the scene – both of whom were transported to hospital in stable condition,” BCEHS said in its statement.

It’s not clear what caused the vehicle to go off the road, but police had a roadway taped off. RCMP, CSOs and Kamloops Search and Rescue were all on scene.

Witnesses at the scene as well as those on social media say one person remains unaccounted for. Witnesses also said one person jumped into the river to render aid after what appears to be a red sedan was seen in the water.
