CHILLIWACK – A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment has confirmed to Fraser Valley Today that three people were hospitalized and three people were arrested following two separate assault incidents during the weekend.
RCMP Corporal Carmen Kiener says police were notified at roughly 11:41 p.m. Friday night about an incident that resulted in injuries near Portage Park east of Chilliwack Secondary School.
Upon arrival, police located two adults suffering from injuries following an alleged assault. A large group of youths were reportedly in the area when the adult victims encountered the group and were subsequently injured. Both victims sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Two youths and one adult have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The adult victims and the individuals arrested are not known to each other.
On Saturday, May 23, investigators executed a search warrant at a nearby residence as part of continued efforts to advance the investigation.
Corporal Kiener says the investigation remains ongoing.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about this incident, or who may have video footage in the area between 10:30 pm and 11:30 pm on May 22nd, to contact the Chilliwack RCMP and reference file number 2026-21140.
On Saturday night, police responded to a report of an assault near Peach Park at about 11 p.m. Emergency responders including RCMP, Chilliwack Fire Department and B.C. EHS paramedics responded code 3 to the southern end of Peach Road.
Corporal Kiener says one youth was located with serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
“No arrests have been made as investigators continue to advance this file. Preliminary information suggests more than one large group of youths were involved in this situation,” Cpl. Kiener said Sunday. “Initial reports suggested bear mace was involved.”
Scanner traffic indicated a person had been allegedly stabbed, while fire crews were asked to attend for a decontamination pepper spray incident near Peach Park.
