MISSION — Search-and-rescue crews have once again saved the day this week, this time in Mission.
On Thursday evening, the Mission Search and Rescue Society was paged out to help a man who fell a “considerable distance” in the East Stave backcountry.
SAR said that although the man was stable, his injuries from the fall had made it harder to move.
“Mission SAR members were able to locate the subject, provide first aid, and stretcher him to a helicopter for a medical transport,” said the group.
Contour Helicopters assisted with the rescue.
Nearly a week prior, Hope SAR saved a senior on Serpent’s Back trail and three stranded hikers off the Mount Grant Summit.
BCSARA data from 2022 shows that the top three reasons for search-and-rescue calls are injury, getting lost or confused, and “exceeding abilities” out of 1,500 SAR calls in the province.
