Abbotsford recycling depot recognized as top B.C. collector for 3rd consecutive year

ABBOTSFORD — A local recycling hub has earned top honours for its work in turning dangerous liquid trash into reused treasure at Interchange Recycling’s Top Collector Awards this year.

The seventh annual event has recognized Abbotsford’s GFL Environmental for the third year in a row.

Selection criteria include: the total amount of used oil and antifreeze collected at the facility, total number of participating years at Interchange Recycling’s public return program, and demonstrated support of the nonprofit and other recycling stewardship programs.

“Each collection site across the province plays a vital role in keeping our communities safe by recovering hazardous materials like used motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters, and automotive containers,” said Jenn Robson, director of operations at Interchange Recycling. 

“When residents drop off these materials at our free public recycling centres, they ensure these recyclable resources stay out of local landfills and waterways. These awards recognize the communities leading by example.”

The nonprofit group says 99.4 per cent of B.C. locals currently have “reasonable” access to recycling locations. Residents can support the program by returning materials to a local collection facility or participating Interchange Recycling service providers found here.
