Abbotsford drivers lose vehicles after alleged street race

ABBOTSFORD — Two Abbotsford men are without their vehicles for the next seven days after police say they were caught street racing on Clearbrook Road.

Police said patrol officers observed a Ford Mustang and a Chrysler 300 racing shortly after 11 p.m. on Clearbrook Road near McClure Road Monday night (July 27).

According to police, the vehicles reached speeds of 96 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.

The 22-year-old and 29-year-old drivers were stopped and issued for excessive speeding. Police also impounded both vehicles for seven days.

Abbotsford police are reminding motorists that street racing and excessive speeding endanger everyone using Abbotsford roads and will not be tolerated. Police said dangerous driving can have consequences beyond traffic tickets and vehicle impoundments. They warned that, in some cases, dangerous driving can result in criminal investigations.

Police also said vehicles may be seized as offence-related property and permanently forfeited in certain cases.
