LANGLEY — Five people have been charged after an over-a-year-long extortion investigation in both Langley and Surrey, according to the latest announcement by Langley RCMP.
Police say Project E_PURSUANCE kicked off in June 2025, when co-owners of an auto dealership reported being targets of “significant” extortion demands, followed by two attacks involving arson and shootings at their Surrey and Langley locations.
After an extensive operation both on national and international soil, investigators identified a group allegedly involved in extortion, as well as illegal gun and drug trafficking.
On Thursday, October 1, the BC Prosecution Service laid charges against 24-year-old Surrey residents Sahil (no last name) and Simranjeet Singh, 24-year-old Jagdeep Singh from Ottawa, 21-year-old Harsh (no last name) and Sanket Singla, 23, who was in India before investigators facilitated his arrest with help from the IRCC and CBSA.
“Through ongoing efforts, investigators identified his alleged role in this matter and determined that it was in the public interest to have him appear before the courts in Canada,” said Langley RCMP.
Singla remains in custody in Toronto, and police arrested the other four in Surrey.
All five men have been charged with extortion and causing damage by fire or explosion to property, among other offences. All were also charged with recklessly discharging a firearm, except Sahil, who instead faced two counts of trafficking cocaine and six total counts of various unauthorized gun-related transfers.
“These files are complex and resource intensive, and they often require specialized police resources in different roles to advance them,” said Chief Superintendent Duncan Pound with B.C.’s extortion task force.
“This investigation demonstrates the importance of bringing partner agencies together in order to take full advantage of investigative opportunities as they arise.”
Pound did not confirm any connection to the Bishnoi gang during the press conference late this morning, adding that if evidence supported it, police “wouldn’t be able to speak to that”.
