Man in apparent drug-induced state crosses into the U.S. from Abbotsford, returns and gets combative

ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford responded to the Canada-U.S. border over the Thanksgiving weekend after a man illegally crossed into the U.S. on foot before returning to Canada and becoming assaultive toward officers.

In a statement, the Abbotsford Police Department says officers were called to the 29000 block of 0 Avenue in Abbotsford Monday afternoon, (Oct. 12) just before 2 p.m., for reports of a man who was observed acting erratically and crossing into the United States.

Police say the man appeared to be confused and disoriented, and appeared to be suffering from a drug-induced psychosis that required hospitalization.

After the man returned back into Canada, he became combative.

Officers were able to restrain him until he was transported to Abbotsford Regional Hospital for medical treatment.
