ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say a male has had his vehicle impounded for a week after he was clocked at more than two and a half times the speed limit earlier today, all while being allegedly under the influence of drugs.
According to a social media post from the Abbotsford Police Department, an AbbyPD officer conducting proactive traffic enforcement early Wednesday morning, October 14 stopped a driver along Downes Road just after 1 a.m. The vehicle had been clocked at speeds of 127 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
On top of those shenanigans, police say the officer suspected the male driver had drugs in his system, which was confirmed after he conducted a field sobriety test.
The driver was issued a 24-hour roadside driving prohibition for drugs, and had his vehicle impounded for seven days as a result of the excessive speeding.
Since the start of 2026, 364 drivers have had their vehicles impounded for excessive speed.
AbbyPD officers have also removed 821 impaired drivers from our roadways since the start of this year.
“This behaviour is unacceptable, jeopardizes the safety of everyone on our roads, and significantly increases the risk of a tragic yet entirely preventable collision,” the Abbotsford Police Department said.
