Chilliwack RCMP arrest man who was seen walking down Vedder Road with 2 flat screen TVs
CHILLIWACK — Most people transporting a pair of flat screen TVs would use a vehicle to get the job done.
Which is why a man’s suspicious activities in broad daylight caught the eye of an alert Mountie this past week.
Chilliwack RCMP say a man has been arrested and remains in custody after he was seen suspiciously carrying two flat screen TVs in Sardis.
According to a news brief from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, an observant RCMP member was traveling on Vedder Road in Sardis on Friday, May 17 at 12:30 p.m., when the officer witnessed a male walking “suspiciously” with a pair of flat screen TVs in his hands. Police say they recognized the male as he is known to police.
Police initiated a search query on the male and discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for theft under $5,000. The man was subsequently arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police were not able to determine where the TVs came from.
The incident was one of over 420 calls for service that the Chilliwack RCMP recorded over the Victoria Day long weekend between Friday, May 17 at 4 a.m. and Tuesday, May 21 at 4 a.m.
In other RCMP calls over the Victoria Day long weekend:
On Saturday, May 18, Chilliwack RCMP were called to the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre for a male who had allegedly brandished a firearm to a group of youths. Police arrived and a large gathering of youth began to scatter in all directions. Police were able to interview some of the youth, including one who had been allegedly bear sprayed. However, after speaking with witnesses, it was determined that no firearm was involved. After further investigation, several cans of bear spray were located in the area and seized by police for destruction. The appearance of the bear spray was similar to that of a firearm which lead to the initial report. The group of youth were sent home as police were unable to obtain information from the youth that would identify the male assailant.
