ABBOTSFORD — The City of Abbotsford is now urging residents to honour some people and groups who have made significant contributions to the community at this year’s Civic Recognition Awards.
Nominations are now open for the annual event’s two categories: the Order of Abbotsford and the Community Champion Achievement Award.
The Order recognizes a current or former Abbotsford resident of over 10 years who has “demonstrated a particularly high level” or length of service to the community in a variety of areas, including arts and culture, public service and environmental conservation.
The latter award recognizes any individual or organization that has made a “noteworthy” contribution or one-time act that has helped the community.
Order recipients have their names recorded in the City’s Merit Book, while Community Champions get their names engraved on a paving stone along the city-wide Discovery Trail.
John LeBlanc and Harry Schmidt were each named as last year’s Champions for supporting the search for a lost hiker and a lifetime of service, respectively.
Nominations may be submitted online or in person at City Hall until June 25, with award recipients set to be recognized this fall.
