Body recovered in the Fraser River: RCMP

FRASER RIVER – Mounties in Maple Ridge say a body recovered in the Fraser River over the weekend has been identified as the same person who was reported to have fallen into the river in late April.

On Monday, April 27, at approximately 10:35 a.m., Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a report of a marine incident in the 22400 block of River Road near the Port Haney Wharf. Frontline officers immediately attended the area and learned that an adult male may have fallen into the Fraser River at this location and did not resurface. Officers searched the surrounding area and did not observe anyone in distress in the water or surfacing on the waterline.

This past weekend, Mounties responded on Sunday morning, May 31 to a report of a visible body in the Fraser River on the Katzie First Nation reserve lands. Officers attended the area and collaborated with New Westminster Police Service and search and rescue crews to recover the body.

Police say the deceased individual has now been identified, and investigative efforts have confirmed this to be the same outstanding individual from this previous incident.

No foul play is suspected at this time, police said. The investigation ongoing.

Out of respect for the grieving family and their privacy, the deceased individual’s name will not be released, police said.
