The $40 million expansion of Sardis Secondary was first announced in April 2023. At the time, the province announced that the campus addition would be built using mass timber, supporting the government’s priority of creating climate-friendly buildings. The government said mass timber represented an innovative building technology that would reduce the school’s carbon footprint throughout its lifetime by producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to steel or concrete.
