$300K donation supports new caregiver programs in Fraser Valley

CHILLIWACK — Family caregivers throughout the region may soon get better support thanks to a generous donation to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation.
Petro-Canada has allocated $300,000 to help expand caregiver resources in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, Hope, and Agassiz-Harrison Hot Springs.
“Family caregivers are often the invisible backbone of our healthcare system,” said FVHCF Executive Director Liz Harris.
“This funding allows us to work alongside Fraser Health Authority and community partners to provide meaningful, practical and compassionate support to caregivers who are too often navigating these challenges alone.”
Programs offered through the project include peer support and caregiver connection groups, mental health and caregiver resilience workshops and community engagement and outreach in underserved areas.
Funding is distributed through Petro-Canada’s CareMakers Foundation Grant, which supports critical programs for more than eight million Canadians who provide unpaid care to family members and others living with illness and disability.
