CHILLIWACK – Police in Chilliwack can now confirm that two charges have been laid against an 18-year-old Chilliwack man, Tyreese Webber-Schooner, in a vicious assault that left a youth victim with serious, life-changing injuries.

According to a statement sent to Fraser Valley Today by RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, police responded to a report of an assault on Sunday, May 3, 2026 that occurred on Wells Road, just west of Vedder Road, where a youth victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

After an extensive investigation by members of the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crimes Unit, investigators identified a suspect believed to be involved in these incidents.

As a result of the investigation, Corporal Kiener can confirm that the BC Prosecution Service has approved the following charges against Tyreese Webber-Schooner, 18, of Chilliwack:

  • Assault with a Weapon – Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm – Section 267(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Webber-Schooner appeared in court on Tuesday, July 14.

“This investigation involved significant efforts by the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crimes Unit and support from members of the public who provided valuable information,” says Constable Brennan Kish of the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crimes Unit. “We would like to thank everyone who came forward to assist investigators. Their cooperation contributed greatly to advancing this investigation.”

The mother of the youth who suffered life-altering injuries from the assault says she’s angry over the two charges, saying they don’t reflect the fact her son nearly died from the assault.

“I’m angry beyond words. Those charges do not fit the crime, or the injury,” Amey Pailer told Fraser Valley Today.

Her son remains in hospital while he recovers from the incident.

“All Isaac wants is to go home. He doesn’t understand why his body doesn’t work the way it used to, but even through all of this, he keeps fighting with everything he has,” Pailer said, applauding her son’s heroism over two months removed from the horrific assault.
“I am so incredibly proud of my boy. Isaac is the strongest kid I know,” she said. “We can have conversations again, he still makes us laugh every day, and he’s even been able to go outside, enjoy the sunshine, and start eating and drinking again.”
“Isaac has been through the unimaginable, yet he has overcome so much in such a short time. There is still a long road ahead in his recovery, but I truly believe that one day he will show everyone that he can walk again,” Pailer said.
After publication of this story, Pailer released the following statement on social media voicing her frustration with the overall fallout from the unprovoked, vicious assault.

“The RCMP made a media release and completely downplayed Isaac’s condition, stating he was transported to hospital with serious injuries, when in fact he was in critical life threatening condition and remained in that condition for weeks.”
“I alway knew our justice system was a joke! Experiencing it first hand is infuriating. The person who assaulted Isaac (Tyreese Webber-Schooner) was arrested on Monday and released on Tuesday. He is being charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.”
“What a joke, Isaac did not experience a broken bone, bruises or little cuts here. He suffered a wound over 7 inches deep which hit his gluteal artery and he bled out. His life was taken from him that night, he was in full cardiac arrest before his friends got him to the hospital and he was brought back after 35 min of CPR. He lost 2x the amount of blood his body had while he was being stabilized just enough to be transferred to the ICU.”
“He suffered brain damage due to the loss of oxygen and blood to his brain. His organs shut down and he was on the maximum amount of life support possible. He was the sickest patient in the province of BC. He has went through an unimaginable amount of pain and trauma.”
“He is still unable to walk, unable to do the basic life necessities for himself and continues to suffer in pain everyday. Even though Isaac has come so far in his recovery so far, his life has been forever changed. I am so heartbroken everyday watching him go through this nightmare and I want justice. I am angry beyond words! Nothing has been released by the media and everyone needs to know this dangerous individual is out roaming the streets.”
