Senior woman assaulted at Abbotsford park, suspect still at large

ABBOTSFORD — A local senior has now been released from hospital after an early morning assault at Ellwood Park Thursday (July 16).

The Abbotsford Police Department says at around 6:40 a.m., a woman in her 70s was in a public washroom at the park when an unknown suspect, who was believed to be a man, went in and attacked her – unprovoked.

The woman then asked for help after the suspect fled the area.

She received injuries requiring medical attention and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Sgt. Paul Walker with the AbbyPD says the victim is still “shaken up” but recovering at home.

The suspect remains missing despite an extensive search by AbbyPD patrol officers. Police say the description is limited as the woman was unable to recall details due to the trauma.

Early findings suggest the incident was random.

Investigators are now seeking surveillance and dash-cam video to identify the suspect and gather additional evidence.
