Petition to recall Vancouver MLA fails

VANCOUVER – The petition to recall Vancouver MLA Dallas Brodie has failed due to a substantial lack of signatures.

Elections BC announced Monday afternoon that an effort to recall Dallas Brodie, MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena, failed because it did not collect enough signatures.

In conjunction with the Recall and Initiative Act, the proponent was mandated to collect signatures from more than 40 per cent of the voters who were registered to vote in the MLA’s district on the day the MLA was elected and are currently registered as a voter, or 15,232 eligible signatures.

The proponent submitted 3,663 signatures collected by 118 registered canvassers. As the number of signatures returned does not meet the required threshold, Elections BC says it will not take further action on the petition.

The recall proponent, MLA and advertising sponsors must file financial disclosure reports with the Chief Electoral Officer by August 17, 2026.

Elections BC notes that 31 recall petitions have been issued since the Recall and Initiative Act came into force in 1995.

To date, not a single petition has ever met the requirements established by the Recall and Initiative Act, Elections BC said.
