Chilliwack RCMP arrest wanted person amid heavy police presence on Hwy. 1 over the weekend

ABBOTSFORD – One person has been arrested after a heavy police presence inundated Highway 1 in Abbotsford over the weekend.

Social media lit up Saturday night after witnesses reported seeing in excess of 10 police cars on Highway 1 westbound between Sumas Way (Exit 92) and Whatcom Road (Exit 95).

A person on Facebook said traffic was at a standstill, with at least six police cars in front of the stoppage and a line of cars blocked in by additional police units, with more police vehicles heading toward the incident.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener told Fraser Valley Today the incident stemmed from a wanted person in another policing jurisdiction. The name of the policing jurisdiction was not released by police.

“Chilliwack RCMP located the person and made the arrest. This person did not pose a risk to the general public, and this was an isolated incident,” Cpl. Kiener said.

An Abbotsford Police Department spokesperson told Fraser Valley Today the incident did not involve their agency.
