Wildfire along Coquihalla Highway not threatening the transportation corridor

CQQUIHALLA HIGHWAY — A wildfire burning along the Coquihalla Highway northeast of Hope remains out of control. However, in an update from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) Tuesday morning (July 28), the fire is not posing any threat to the important roadway or any structures.

The Dewdney Creek wildfire is measured at 103 hectares and is clearly visible across a valley on the south side of the highway.

At this point, the BCWS says ground crews or aircraft are responding to the fire as necessary.

The fire was first spotted on July 15.  It is suspected that a human was responsible for igniting the blaze, although there are no other details provided by the BCWS.

The BCWS is asking motorists to avoid stopping along the highway to examine the fire.
