Coquitlam man faces gun-related charges following B.C. anti-gang police investigation

COQUITLAM — A man is now in custody following a firearms investigation in the Lower Mainland this summer.

CFSEU-BC’s Illegal Firearm Enforcement Team began investigating a Coquitlam man in June in relation to multiple gun charges.

On July 16, CFSEU-BC officers arrested 35-year-old Saadiq Azimali Daya without incident following a search warrant in Surrey and Coquitlam.

Investigators also seized a .22 Beretta 92FS and a 9mm Beretta M9A3 during the search.

Daya has now been charged with two counts each of possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm without holding authorization, possessing a prohibited firearm at an unauthorized location, and storing a restricted firearm contrary to storage regulations.

“This investigation demonstrates the value of strong partnerships in policing,” said Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, CFSEU-BC media relations officer. 

“By working alongside the Surrey RCMP Provincial Operations Support Unit and combining our specialized resources and investigative capabilities, we were able to advance a complex investigation and reinforce our shared commitment to safer communities.”

Daya remains in custody and is set to appear in court on August 10.
