CHILLIWACK – A Chilliwack road will be closed weekdays for over two weeks due to an ongoing infrastructure project.
The City of Chilliwack says South Sumas Road from Reid Road to Wiltshire Street will be closed from Monday, August 17 to Friday, September 4. Detours are in place, but residents with driveways within the affected area can still access their properties.
The road closures tie in with the 2025 Sardis Vedder Trunk Sewer Project. The city says the project is essential toward its goal of providing residents with reliable and cost-effective sewer service. Ballina Contracting is the project contractor.
During excavation, the contractor encountered what the city calls “unforeseen site conditions” that affected the pace of construction and the anticipated completion timeline. To help mitigate further delays and support completion of the work before school resumes, the contractor requested changes to the current construction schedule.
The temporary changes enable the contractor to have additional time to complete the remaining work safely and efficiently while working toward the anticipated project completion timeline.
On weekdays, there will be a 24-hour road closure starting Monday, August 17 through to Friday, September 4, just before Chilliwack public schools return on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
On weekends, the closures will go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22-23 and the following weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 29-30.
