ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say they’re aware of reports on social media that claim an active shooter allegedly targeted vehicles travelling on Highway 1 between Abbotsford and Chilliwack Monday, but say those reports are unfounded.
According to a statement from spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, the AbbyPD received a report at approximately 11:43 a.m. Monday (Oct. 19) that the front windshield of a commercial vehicle had been struck by what is suspected to be a BB or pellet.
Sgt. Walker says the caller reported the incident to police an hour and a half after it had occurred. The incident is reported to have occurred in the area of the No. 3 Road exit (Exit 104) while the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Highway 1.
Sgt. Walker says AbbyPD Patrol officers are actively investigating the incident and are currently in the early stages of determining the circumstances surrounding how the damage occurred.
Sgt. Walker says there is no active shooter incident, and the reports on social media are unfounded.
“While the investigation remains ongoing, there is currently no information to suggest any active threat to the public,” Sgt. Walker told Fraser Valley Today.
