ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Highway 1 Sunday after locating a vehicle linked to an individual who was wanted for outstanding assault charges from another Lower Mainland jurisdiction.

At approximately 4 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 18), Abbotsford PD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker said plainclothes officers located a vehicle in east Abbotsford that had been identified as being associated with an individual wanted on outstanding assault charges.

In view of the suspect’s previous interactions with police, which included firearms-related offences, AbbyPD officers conducted a high-risk vehicle stop to safely take the individual into custody.

Sgt. Walker says the coordinated arrest allowed officers to quickly gain control of the suspect while reducing any risk to the public.

The man was arrested without incident and taken into custody.

Highway 1 traffic was briefly affected while officers carried out the arrest and ensured the scene was safe before reopening the area, Sgt. Walker said.
