SURREY – Police in Surrey say a 22-year-old man who was previously arrested and charged in an attempted child abduction in June 2026 has now been charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.
According to a statement from Sgt. Ali Gailus with the Surrey Police Service, Liam Robert Dobbs-Morency was arrested by SPS members on June 13, 2026. The following day, he was charged with one count of abduction of a person under 14 years of age, and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
Police say officers responded on June 13 to an attempted stranger abduction of a child, who was playing outside on their driveway when they were approached and picked up.
Police say bystanders saw what was happening and intervened, and the stranger let the child go and ran from the scene.
The child was not physically injured and the man was later detained by bystanders until police took him into custody.
Shortly after his arrest, SPS’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) officers commenced an investigation into reports of the suspect possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation materials (CSAEM).
On Monday, October 19, 2026, Dobbs-Morency was charged with one count of possession of CSAEM.
He has been in custody since his arrest on June 13, 2026, and has since been detained by the court.
