Man charged in Surrey, B.C., child abduction case now accused of new offence

SURREY — A 22-year-old man who previously was arrested and charged for an attempted child abduction now faces an additional charge.
Surrey Police say Liam Dobbs-Morency has now been charged with one count of possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material following an ongoing investigation.
Dobbs-Morency was charged in June with abduction of a person under 14 years old and possession of a prohibited weapon and remains in custody.
Police say officers responded on June 13 to an attempted stranger abduction of a child, who was playing outside on their driveway when they were approached and picked up.
They say bystanders saw what was happening and intervened, and the stranger let the child go and ran from the scene.
The child was not physically injured and the man was later detained by bystanders until police took him into custody.
