ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say a 29-year-old man lost his vehicle for a week after he was caught driving at just about three times the speed limit overnight.
In a statement, police in Abbotsford say they continue to conduct proactive speed enforcement because excessive speeding can have life-changing consequences for drivers, passengers and innocent road users.
Police say the most concerning incident of excessive speed happened when they observed a blue Audio travelling at 146 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on McClure Road near McCallum Road, at approximately 2 a.m. earlier today (Saturday, Oct. 24).
Police say the driver was issued $564 in fines, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

In other similar incidents, two additional drivers also had their vehicles impounded overnight.
Shortly after midnight, a 17-year-old Class 7N driver operating his parents’ Tesla was stopped on Highway 1 travelling 164 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. Officers also determined the driver was violating the conditions of his licence by carrying too many passengers and failing to properly display his ‘N’ sign. The young driver was issued $701 in fines, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Another incident involved a 21-year-old driver who was stopped travelling 114 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on McClure Road near Babich Street. He was issued an excessive speeding ticket, and the vehicle he was driving was also impounded for seven days
“AbbyPD is reminding drivers that road safety is not a suggestion, it is a responsibility,” police said. “Driving is a privilege, not a right, and with that privilege comes an obligation to operate vehicles safely and responsibly. Choices made behind the wheel can have life-changing consequences for drivers, passengers, and innocent road users. Speeding remains one of the leading contributing factors in serious and fatal collisions. No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of others to save a few minutes. AbbyPD officers will continue proactive enforcement throughout the community to improve road safety and hold dangerous drivers accountable. Slow down, drive responsibly, and remember: driving is a privilege earned through safe and lawful behaviour.”
