CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack firefighters and RCMP members were called to a reported smoke call on Vedder Road Saturday night.
The call came in shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday evening along Vedder Road, located north of South Sumas Road.
Scanner traffic indicated the call involved a battery, or batteries, on a charger that had shorted, resulting in heavy smoke.
Chilliwack fire crews deployed a hose toward the home during the service call.
No flames spread to nearby homes, nor was there any obvious signs of exterior fire damage, but there was a strong smell of smoke near the Vedder Road residence while firefighters attended.
BC Ambulance was asked to attend because one person reportedly had smoke inhalation.

There were at least two fire engines and two RCMP vehicles present. Their vehicles occupied the right lane of northbound Vedder Road during the incident; one or two firefighters directed northbound traffic while they attended.
