45-year-old inmate serving a 14-year jail sentence dies in custody at Fraser Valley prison
Mission Institution.
MISSION – Federal correctional staff say a 45-year-old inmate died in custody this past week at a prison in Mission, but a court-ordered publication ban prohibits them from releasing the name of the inmate.
According to a statement from Correctional Service Canada, a 45-year-old died in custody last Thursday, Oct. 22 at Mission Institution.
Correctional staff say the individual’s name has been anonymized to comply with a court-ordered publication ban to protect the identity of the victim.
At the time of death, the inmate was 45 years old and had been serving a sentence of 14 years, 11 months, and 21 days since October 1, 2018.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC says it will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
