Trucker charged with attempting to smuggle drugs over Canada-U.S. border in B.C.

ABBOTSFORD BRITISH COLUMBIA — Police say a 47-year-old man is facing drug-trafficking charges following the discovery of illicit drugs inside the commercial truck and trailer he was driving as he tried to cross the Canada-U.S. border in Abbotsford, B.C., last year.
Federal Mounties say Canadian Border Services Agency officers found 52 brick-shaped packages containing illicit drugs inside two duffle bags when they searched the truck at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon port of entry in October 2025.
Police say the ensuing investigation has led to the approval of four charges in British Columbia provincial court, including the importation of cocaine and heroin.
The man is also accused of possessing cocaine and heroin for the purpose of trafficking, with the charges approved on Oct. 19.
Police say the man is Canadian, though they don’t say where exactly he’s from.
David Lee, a director with the Canada Border Services Agency, calls the seizure “significant” and says it reflects the partnership between the agency and the RCMP.
