Chilliwack RCMP investigate four suspected impaired driving incidents
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP investigated four suspected impaired driving incidents last week, including two single-vehicle crashes that resulted in 90-day driving prohibitions.
In the first incident, officers stopped a vehicle on Prest Road after observing it travelling 102 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. According to police, the driver displayed signs of impairment and had a history of impaired driving. Breath samples confirmed the officer’s suspicions.
The driver is expected to appear in court at a later date. He was issued multiple violation tickets, including for excessive speeding and driving contrary to licence restrictions. His vehicle was also impounded.
In a separate incident, police investigated a hit-and-run collision involving a parked vehicle on Teskey Road. A witness reported that the driver appeared confused and unwell. Another caller reported seeing the driver entering dwellings in an attempt to locate his own home.
Officers located and arrested the man for impaired driving and confirmed his well-being. Breath samples confirmed suspicions of impairment. He is expected to appear in court at a later date, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Two other incidents involved single-vehicle crashes.
On Camp River Road, B.C. Emergency Health Services requested police attendance after a vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a water-filled ditch. Police allege the driver was seen throwing an alcohol bottle from the vehicle. The Chilliwack Fire Department extracted the driver from approximately 150 feet down an embankment. He was not injured.
Officers observed signs of impairment, and the driver admitted to consuming liquor. Both breath samples produced fail readings. He received a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
In a similar incident on Hack Brown Road, officers responded after a vehicle left the roadway and entered a ditch. The driver displayed signs of impairment, and both breath samples produced fail readings.
