Halloween safety reminders from police

CHILLIWACK — Drivers are being asked to keep their speed down and expect the unexpected as the little ghouls and goblins hit the streets this weekend across the Fraser Valley.
More resources are being deployed by the police throughout the region to help ensure everyone gets home safe but parents and trick-or-treaters can make a big difference.
Safety Tips:
- Attach reflective tape or armbands to increase costume visibility
- Add flashlights, glow sticks and lighted accessories
- Don’t forget to ensure the costume fits properly and doesn’t create a tripping hazard or obstruct the wearer’s vision.
- Trick-or-treaters are reminded to always stop and check for vehicles before crossing the roads and only use crosswalks and marked intersections.
While it can be a tall order not to snack while going from house to house, RCMP also recommend not eating any candy until it’s inspected by an adult. Throw away any items that appear to be tampered with or are not commercially wrapped.
Report any issues or anything suspicious to police.
For older Halloween revellers, RCMP are taking the opportunity to send out a reminder that if you are headed to a party or bar, make sure you plan a safe ride home.
